Le CAMARGUAIS
Coutellerie Le CAMARGUAIS - Didier Lascombe cutlery from the Camargue
Monsieur Lascombe's forge is located in the small commune of BEZOUCE in the Gard department in the south of France, in the northern Camargue.
Born in Thiers, the knife capital of France, Didier Lascombe realised his dream of creating a knife himself.
The first Le CAMARGUAIS was created in 1992, based on the idea of providing the mounted gardians (bull and cattle herders) with a practical, characteristic pocket knife. Until then, they had only been equipped with their shepherd's crook and trident.
In 1993 Didier Lascombe had his creation patented and began to manufacture the CAMARGUAIS in large numbers in his workshop in BEZOUCE. Aesthetic and technically sophisticated pocket knives are created with precise craftsmanship and using mostly local materials.
This is characterised by the embossing of the La Croix de Camargue/Camargue cross on the bolsters of the knife. It symbolises the virtues of faith, hope and love. The Camargue cross is an emblem in the form of a Latin cross whose upper ends represent the trident (tool of the " gardian "), it is rooted in a ship's anchor, above which it is framed by a heart. The cross with its three prongs can be found again on the forged plume running out towards the back of the blade.
