Cognet DOUK-DOUK knife, 11 cm, chrome-plated with a rust-proof blade
The Cognet cutlery workshop was founded in Thiers in 1902. Here, the DOUK-DOUK knives – which are particularly popular and widely used in Africa – have been manufactured for almost 100 years, virtually unchanged.
Thanks to its flat design, this simple, charming knife is comfortable to carry. Its long tradition makes the Douk-Douk a special knife for both users and collectors.
The decorations and ornaments are particularly striking and distinctive. The blade is made from high-quality, rust-proof 14C28N steel.
The name Douk-Douk derives from a secret society called Duk-Duk. This secret society forms part of the traditional culture of the Tolai people from the area around Rabaul in New Britain (Papua New Guinea) in the South Pacific. The origins of this society lie in New Ireland; around 1830, Duk-Duk was integrated into the already existing Tubuan society and cult. The company’s symbol – the Duk-Duk – is a mysterious figure clad in leaves and wearing a helmet. It is reminiscent of an oversized candle snuffer.
